TOURISM LIAISON OFFICER

WHALE TRAIL

Salary R 194 754 per annum (TCoE) Level 5

 

CapeNature offers suitably qualified and motivated individuals an exciting opportunity to live and work within the beautiful   De Hoop Nature Reserve. CapeNature seeks to employ a qualified and experienced individual to assist the Reserve and Tourism Management with the supervision, maintenance and customer service of the entrance gate and the Whale Trail, CapeNature’s premiere multi-day hike.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accept overall responsibility for the efficient management of the Whale Trail, staff, contractors and visiting tourists
  • Ensure that visitors receive a high quality tourism experience aligned to CapeNature standards
  • Report to the Regional Tourism Officer as well as the De Hoop Nature Reserve Conservation Manager on site
  • Provide and promote an efficient and friendly customer service
  • Promote tourism products and control visitors in the reserve
  • Execution of administrative/financial management tasks for efficient management of the reserve and tourists
  • Co-ordinate and assist with the maintenance and servicing of tourism infrastructure
  • Supervise and assist staff appointed to the area
  • Responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental issues relating to Tourism operations and visitors
  • Execution of weekend and public holiday duties and perform work after normal working hours
  • Maintain and improve the high standard of tourism infrastructure and the unique leisure experiences De Hoop Nature Reserve has to offer

      REQUIREMENTS:

  • Formal Tourism qualification or Grade 12 with at least (3) three years appropriate tourism/hospitality industry; customer service or administrative experience
  • A valid code B driver’s license
  • A sound knowledge of the cultural historical aspects of the area
  • Computer literacy (Ms Word, Excel, Power Point, Email, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs)
  • Excellent communication and customer relations skills
  • Bilingual verbally and in writing (English and Afrikaans)
  • The post incumbent will be required to reside on site at De Hoop Nature Reserve
  • Physical fitness and proven ability to live and work in a harsh/remote environment

      RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Excellent staff and contractor supervision and management skills needed
  • Demonstrable experience managing accommodation/eco-tourism facilities
  • Applicants from the Overberg District of the Western Cape are desirable
