Dr Razeena Omar awarded for contribution to conservation
Dr Razeena Omar, CEO of CapeNature, was one of 90 conservationists to recently receive the Lifetime Conservation Achiever Award at the 2016 Annual Awards of the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA).
Our CEO and the other award recipients have dedicated their lives to conservation in South Africa.
Dr Omar was nominated based on her conservation legacy and excellent achievements in the conservation sphere.
CapeNature’s board chairperson, Professor Gavin W. Maneveldt said: “At a time when we are destroying and using far more resources than the planet can replenish, and when we are losing far more species than at any other time in recorded history, there is seldom good conservation news to report. In spite of all this, a few committed individuals have dedicated their lives tirelessly and constructively, more so than most, to the conservation of our planet and its inhabitants.
“With this award, WESSA (a leading NGO and implementer of high-impact environmental and conservation initiatives in southern Africa) has acknowledged Dr Omar’s remarkable achievements and conservation legacy. CapeNature is proud and most fortunate to be under her leadership. Together we celebrate her achievements and happily claim them as our own.”
