Call for Comment: Management Plan for Boland Mountain Complex World Heritage Site

This is a notification of the stakeholder engagement process and an invitation to attend a public meeting to provide inputs and comments to the draft Protected Area Management Plan for the Boland Mountain Complex World Heritage Site. 

Management plans for protected areas are required in terms of section 39(2) of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No. 57 of 2003) together with section 21 of the World Heritage Convention Act, 1999 (Act No. 49 of 1999).   These plans, must inter alia be aimed at anticipating and preventing negative impacts on the environment and on the environmental rights of the peoples, and where they cannot be prevented, be mitigated.

CapeNature, as the management authority, is obligated to conserve, manage, promote, facilitate and monitor cultural and natural heritage in accordance with all applicable national and provincial legislation, policies and these management plans.

The following public meetings will be held:

3 December at 10:00 – at On the Edge Restaurant at the Stony Point Penguin Colony, Betty’s Bay

4 December at 10:00 – at the Villiersdorp Library

5 December at 10:00 – at the Paarl Round Table Club house, Klein Parys Road, Paarl.

The document can be viewed at the public libraries in Kleinmond, Villiersdorp, Wolseley, Paarl and Stellenbosch or at the offices of the following Capenture Conservation Areas: Kogelberg, Jonkershoek, Hottentots Holland, Limietberg and Waterval.
