CapeNature Announces a Freeze on Tourism Prices until 31 August 2020

by CapeNature

CapeNature is delighted to announce a tourism price freeze on entrances fees, camping, hiking and accommodation tariffs at CapeNature reserves across the Western Cape until 31 August 2020.

This means that visitors get to spend quality time at CapeNature reserves, hiking, camping under the stars, and ‘glamping’ in luxury, safari-style tents, and modern, luxury self-catered eco-cabins at 2018 rates. Despite the inflation rate increases and the current recession in South Africa, CapeNature wants to see more and more locals explore and experience the rich natural heritage exclusive to the province.

The announcement forms part of the entity’s mandate to manage, conserve and promote human, natural and heritage assets through best practice, access, benefit sharing and sustainable use. CapeNature aims to keep its holiday destinations affordable and accessible so that as many households as possible can enjoy spending time in nature.

Anton Bredell, the minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape applauded the initiative, commenting that, “Income generated from tourism activities on reserves is ploughed back into the outstanding work that CapeNature does in conserving this natural legacy for the benefit of future generations. The Western Cape is home to a number of World Heritage Sites which contain fauna and flora which require substantial funding for efforts in fire management, invasive alien plant clearing and the upkeep of MPA’s and mountain catchments.”

CapeNature’s Executive Director: Eco-Tourism and Access, Sheraaz Ismail re-iterated the entity’s intention make access to protected areas as affordable as possible; “We recognize that, in these trying economic times, families are looking for holiday getaways that are authentic and affordable. The prize freeze at our tourism offerings will not only allow more people to visit CapeNature reserves but also enable them to extend their stays at value for money rates, while enjoying a range of luxury accommodations.”
