Marine Month

30 Oct 2023

Marine Month is celebrated annually throughout the month of October to create awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the sustainable use and conservation of these resources, for the benefit of all people.

We need to take care of our marine resources to ensure that we always have the benefits that the ocean provides us. Some of these benefits are providing food to many people in different communities along our beautiful coastline and it creates work in the coastal communities.

The oceans also have other functions such as reducing the force of storms, it helps with waste reduction, it offers a habitat for a plethora of animals and plants and serve as a tourism attraction.

Marine Protected Areas are areas that have been selected with the purpose to protect specific species that are threatened to ensure their survival and future existence.
