The Draft Greater De Hoop Complex Protected Area Management Plan 2026-2036 is open for public comment

The Greater De Hoop Complex is approximately 64 569 ha in extent and comprises of the De Hoop Provincial Nature Reserve, De Mond, Waenhuiskrans, Soetendalsvlei State Land and the De Hoop Marine Protected Area. De Hoop, De Mond and Soetendalsvlei are inscribed World Heritage Sites while De Hoop Vlei and De Mond are registered RAMSAR sites.

Herewith notification of the commencement of the Stakeholder Engagement Process and an invitation to provide your inputs and comments.

The objective of a management plan is to ensure that the protection, conservation and management of the Greater De Hoop Complex is consistent with the objectives of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, Act 57 of 2003 (NEM:PAA) and managed in accordance with the purpose for which it was declared.

Management plans need to be compiled in consultation with stakeholders as prescribed by Section 39(3) of the NEM:PAA, which states that all persons who may be interested in, or affected by the management plan, are to be given the opportunity to comment on its content.
