  • All applicable rules, regulations and permit conditions must be adhered to at all times. In case of a transgression, the permit may be withdrawn without any refund.
  • The location manager must ensure that every film crew member is fully informed about the conditions in the permit and general rules and regulations pertaining to the area, as stipulated on the undertaking/ indemnity form.
 Ecological Control Officers (ECO)
  • No filming may take place in the absence of an ECO, except where otherwise agreed with the reserve manager.
  • The ECO’s will record all activities during filming on the Wrap Assessment Sheet
  Changes in film script
  • Should the script be amended with changes that are incompatible with the permit conditions and general rules and regulations, they should be discussed with the relevant reserve manager and the service provider.
  • Additional requests will be considered according to their merit and impact on the environment. This may necessitate new permit conditions and possibly a new application process.
 Wrap/strike days
  • Apart from regular inspections during filming, the reserve manager and/or the ECO together with the location manager will do a final inspection of the terrain immediately after wrap up. Possible ecological damage and transgressions of conditions in the permit will be identified and recorded on the Wrap Assessment Sheet.
  • As soon as production is completed, all infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, etc must be removed without delay.
  • If ecological damage is identified, the deposit will be used for rehabilitation, if deemed necessary.
  • In the case of long term filming, wrap assessments could be done on a regular basis, i.e. weekly
  Base camp parking
  • An applicable tariff will be charged for dedicated space not belonging to CapeNature, as agreed with by the land-owner. The service will deal directly with the landowner.
  • A nominal rate of up to R2000.00 applies for base camp parking within CapeNature Reserves.
Ecological matters
  • At least one ECO must be on site at all times, at the discretion of the reserve manager or his proxy.
  • Filming will be limited to specified areas.
  • No disturbance of rock formations, moving of loose rocks or scarring of rock faces will be allowed.
  • No game, soil or natural vegetation (dead or alive) may be disturbed.
  • No pedestrians or vehicles will be allowed outside the designated areas.
  • Tame animals brought into the reserve must be handled in accordance with the permit conditions, obtainable from CapeNature`s Law Administration
  • Bringing in of plants must be in accordance to the permit conditions.
  • Construction of scaffolding etc. must be in accordance with the relevant legislation pertaining to that industry.
  • No spilling of oil or fuel from vehicles or equipment during filming.
  • No open fires will be allowed. If necessary, smoke may only be generated according to the conditions in the permit.
  • No dogs or pets may be taken into a reserve, except without prior written consent of the reserve manager and if under the care of an animal handler or other suitable member of the crew.
 Access control/vehicle movement
  • The film crew must report to the CapeNature manager or Ecological Control Officer and present their permit, after which the key to the entrance gate will be handed to them.
  • The main entrance gates shall remain locked at all times.
  • All vehicles must stay on roads at all times.
  • Helicopter landings will be restricted to the sites identified by the manager or ECO.
  Chemical toilets
  • Film crews have to supply their own chemical toilets.
  • There must be at least one chemical toilet for every 15 people on set at any time
  • If vehicles and equipment are left in a parking area away from the shoot, provision should also be made for an additional toilet.
  • Toilets should be kept clean and in working condition throughout.
  • Toilets must be inconspicuous and ecologically acceptable.
  Refuse and smoking
  • Littering of any kind is strictly prohibited on the terrain.
  • Film crews have to supply refuse bins at appropriate sites.
  • Refuse must be removed from the terrain on a daily basis.
  • Lids of refuse bins must be wind-and animal proof.
  • Refuse may not be burnt or buried on the terrain.
  • Smoking is only allowed in designated areas and appropriate refuse containers must be used for cigarette butts.
Traffic and parking
  • Vehicles and machines may only be used on existing roads.
  • The speed limit in nature reserves is 40 km/h, except where otherwise stated.
  • Vehicles must be parked in demarcated areas.
  • Sufficient parking space has to be left for visitors, at the discretion of the reserve manager or ECO.
  Catering
  • Only demarcated areas may be used for cooking, eating and dishwashing.
  • Supply a sufficient number of refuse bins.
  • Remove refuse from the terrain on a daily basis.
  • Wastewater must be removed from the terrain in sealed containers.
  • Fire extinguishers must be on hand during food preparation.
  • No open fires are allowed.
  • Burning stoves must be continuously guarded.
  Combustible materials and chemicals
  • Combustible materials and chemicals must be handled according to the prescribed legislation and the conditions on the permit.
  • No herbicides, chemicals or combustible materials may be used without prior permission by the CapeNature manager.
  • In case of accidental pollution, the CapeNature manager must be notified immediately and appropriate steps must be taken to rehabilitate the affected area.
Firearms and explosives
  • The use of firearms and explosives should be limited to the minimum and must be in accordance with the relevant legislation.
  • Firearms and explosives must be handled according to the conditions in the permit.
  • CapeNature management must inform anyone in the immediate vicinity who may be affected by it, of the intended use of firearms and explosives.
  • On days that the Fire Index is red (high), no form of explosion will be allowed, at the discretion of the Reserve Manager or the relevant fire chief.
Noise
  • Possible sources of noise must be handled in accordance with the requirements in the permit.
  • No music may be played on the site.
  • Power generators should be sealed against noise.
 Overnight
  • Nobody, except security guards if they are required, may remain on the site overnight.
  • Equipment and infrastructure left overnight must be managed in accordance with the conditions in the permit.
  • Sufficient notice to explain the presence of equipment and infrastructure left overnight must be posted.
 Location clearance
  • The site must be cleared of equipment and infrastructure on the day that the crew leaves the site. Alternative arrangements will have to be made for long-term filming projects.
