Wetlands and people
World Wetlands Day is an environmental calendar day in which the importance of wetlands is celebrated around the world. A wetland is a natural place that is flooded by water, either all the time (permanently) or from time to time (seasonally) Some examples include springs, swamps, pans, lakes, estuaries (the place where seawater and freshwater meet), and floodplains.
This year the theme is Wetlands and People. People need wetlands for so many different things like cleaning and storing water as well as providing places to enjoy themselves. Look at the picture below to see how wetlands are part of nature’s water factory.
