Invitation to comment on the Draft 2023 Western Cape Biodiversity Spatial Plan
In terms of section 34(1) of the Western Cape Biodiversity Act, 2021 (Act 6 of 2021) (the Act), CapeNature must prepare a Draft Biodiversity Spatial Plan (the Draft Plan) and submit it to the Provincial Minister responsible for environmental affairs in the Western Cape for adoption. Before adopting the Draft Plan, a consultative process in accordance with section 34(2) and (3) of the Act must be followed. Members of the public are invited to submit written comments on the Draft Plan using the comment form provided by the 30th of July 2024.

CapeNature welcomes the conviction of Cape Town couple for wildlife crime
CapeNature welcomes the sentence imposed by the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Mr Zirkie Bernardus Jansen and Mrs Valerie Gayle Simpson-Jansen of Kirstenhof following their conviction on multiple offences relating to the unlawful keeping, possession and transport of reptiles. The couple were each sentenced on 30 July 2026 to pay a fine of R40 000 or serve 18 months’ imprisonment after being convicted on seven counts under the Nature Conservation Ordinance 19 of 1974.
