Gamkaberg Two/Three-Night Slackpacking Escape

Tierkloof to Ou Kraal, hiking the Tierkloof Trail experiencing an abundance of fauna and flora like never before. You only carry your snack pack and water on the trail, and we will transport your luggage to Ou Kraal. Light weight enhances your experience of exploring four different biomes and not missing out on geology or Khoi History.

Ou Kraal is on top of the Gamkaberg Plateau, 6-hour hike via Tierkloof Trail and 1.5 hours’ drive by 4x4. The 4x4 track double up as an alternative hiking trail.

4 Herder’s Huts sleep 2 each, equipped with two single beds, 1 pillow per person, and bins for storage. The original rock shelter is used as a kitchen, fully equipped with crockery/cutlery, 2 plate gas hob, gas fridge freezer and braai area.

A new lapa with a firepit will enable you to experience a night in the Karoo like no other.

What you need to bring:

• Firelighters and eco-logs
• Charcoal
• Warm clothes (temperatures may drop rapidly)
• Bedding and towels
• Flashlight

Services available at Reserve and Oukraal:

• Selling of firelighters, charcoal and eco-logs - available at the reserve office.
• Firelighters, charcoal and eco logs available at Oukraal in a locked bin for hikers only, key available at reception.
• Cutlery, crockery and 2 plate gas hob at Oukraal kitchen.
• Potable rainwater harvest and put in 20L containers in the kitchen area for your convenience. Outside are two big tanks for refill.
• Gas operating fridge/freezer available.
