Arbor Week

30 Jun 2022

Arbour Week (50 points)

Arbor Week falls within the first week of September every year. During this week, South Africans are called upon to plant indigenous trees.

In the Western Cape, tree planting is best in the cooler months when there is a lot of rain, so it is best to leave tree planting for this time of the year. Always do your research and make sure if 1) you are planting an indigenous (local) tree or plant and 2) if it is the right time of the year to plant it.

Trees are incredibly important. They are the biggest plants on the planet and they give us oxygen, provide food and keep our soil stable. They also make materials available for things like paper, wood and medicine.

Let’s get planting! Why not plant your Cubs Club starter seed and send us a picture of it sprouting to earn 50 points or arrange a tree planting event at your school? Email your pictures to learning@capenature.co.za
