CapeNature participated in the Boosmansbos Helihack to remove invasive species from the Duiwenhoks catchment in the Langeberg Strategic Water Source Area. The Helihack initiative is an extraordinary commitment by volunteers to rid catchments of the most difficult-to-manage invasive alien trees.
The opportunity to take part in the Boosmansbos Helihack was also used to gather biodiversity data from the more inaccessible reaches of the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve and to conduct a survey to find the endangered Boosmansbos long-tailed forest shrew. Unfortunately, it was not located, but a sustainable habitat has been identified for a focused survey to be conducted.
