Individual action projects

30 Apr 2025

Here are some wonderful ways you can make a difference and help protect and encourage more bugs into your garden! Simply send us a picture of your action and we will assign your points to you!

  • Participate in the Big Biodiversity Challenge

The Big Biodiversity Challenge is a competition for learners to identify problems that biodiversity is facing, with possible solutions to the problems. Why not jump on board and enter this competition by identifying a problem that an insect species is facing and what can be done to solve the problem? Participate in the Big Biodiversity Challenge and earn 300 points.

  •  Plant something indigenous

Indigenous plants are a source of food and shelter for pollinating and other beneficial insects. By planting indigenous (naturally occurring locally in your area), you offer a creeping or flying critter a meal and accommodation! Show us your indigenous plant or seed packet that you planted, and earn 200 points.

      • Attract more bugs into your backyard or communal area

Add a shallow bowl of water to a garden so that the insects have somewhere to drink water. Show us a picture of your water bowl and earn 100 points.

      • Use eco-friendly products in your home

Many chemicals that we use in our homes are harmful to insects. By switching to more eco- friendly, natural products, you can save some insects from a horrid fate! Show us a picture of your eco-friendly product and earn 100 points

      • Switch off lights when not in use

Nighttime light pollution has increased dramatically in the last thirty years, which is bad news for a lot of species, including insects. Drawn to artificial light, nocturnal insects can end up dying of exhaustion or predation before sunrise. When you absolutely must light up an outdoor setting, use amber or red-coloured light, which is less attractive to insects.

Show us a picture of your yellow or red outdoor light and earn 50 points per light you show us!
