Green Noise named SA Podcast Awards finalist
Green Noise, CapeNature's podcast, has been named a finalist in the Best Education category at the 2026 South African Podcast Awards. The podcast is one of five finalists in the category, competing alongside Pippa Hudson's Curriculum Bootcamp and Dr Carra's The Paws & Effect Podcast, among others.
Finalists are scored across six criteria: concept and originality, content quality, host performance, structure and pacing, audience connection and production quality. Each entry is scored blind by an independent panel of judges.
The nomination follows a Silver Award at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa 2026, which drew entries from 47 countries. The award recognised Season 3, Episode 3: Honouring Culture and Ancestors.
Hosted by Dan Corder and produced in collaboration with CapeNature by Reel Stories, Green Noise launched on World Tourism Day, 27 September 2024. It now spans five seasons and 28 published episodes, with more than 16 700 downloads.
Episodes explore water security, fire management, marine conservation, cultural heritage, AI in conservation, universal access, youth development, women in tourism and filming in protected areas. Season 4 was a special fire edition, produced in response to the 2026 Cederberg wildfires that scorched more than 74 000 hectares.
Every episode starts with one question: how do we make conservation a conversation everyone can join? Being named a finalist alongside some of the country's best educational podcasts shows the public are listening and that the stories coming out of provincial nature reserves matter.
Green Noise was created to carry the work of our scientists, rangers, partners, and communities beyond our nature reserve boundaries. This recognition shows that conservation storytelling can educate and inspire. I congratulate the entire team behind the podcast for this prestigious acknowledgement.

CapeNature welcomes conviction of Cape Town woman in case involving 145 reptiles
CapeNature welcomes the successful conviction of Mrs Jacqueline Hewett of Woodstock, Cape Town, on all six charges relating to the unlawful acquisition, possession and keeping in captivity of 145 reptiles. The offences involved snakes, geckos and lizards, including protected, endangered, alien invasive and prohibited species, kept at a shop in Lower Main Road, Observatory and her residence in Woodstock in March 2023.
