Marine Month

14 Oct 2022

Marine Month is celebrated annually throughout the month of October to create awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the sustainable use and conservation of these resources, for the benefit of all people.

We need to take care of our marine resources to ensure that we always have the benefits that the ocean provides us. Some of these benefits are providing food to many people in different communities along our beautiful coastline and it creates work in the coastal communities.

The oceans also have other functions such as reducing the force of storms, it helps with waste reduction, it offers a habitat for a plethora of animals and plants and provides many attractions such as tourism.

Marine Protected Areas are areas that have been selected with the purpose to protect specific species that are threatened and needs protection to ensure their future existence. Marine Protected Areas also provide a safe space where threatened species can recover to ensure their survival.
