Group Action Projects

12 Aug 2025

Here are the group action projects that you can earn points from this term:

1: Birdwatching Bonanza! Earn 125 points plus another 25 for each bird you correctly identify!

Grab your binoculars and head to a CapeNature reserve or coastal area. Your mission? Spot as many feathered friends as you can! Snap pics, sketch them, or just enjoy watching them do their thing. Look out for penguins, gulls, cormorants, and other cool coastal birds. Bonus points if you learn their names and fun facts to share! By visiting a coastal nature reserve, you support their conservation efforts, which includes the protection of marine birds.

2. Sustainable Fishy Feast. Your group will earn 50 points for downloading the SASSI APP and 150 points for hosting a sustainable fish braai and eating a SASSI green listed fish.

Get your chef hat on and plan a delicious braai or meal—but here’s the twist: you must follow the SASSI guide to make sure the fish on your plate is ocean-friendly! Green-listed only, Cubs! Whether it’s grilled snoek or a fishy wrap, make it tasty and sustainable. Invite your friends to join your sea-sensible supper.

3. Clean up for the Birds! Earn your group 200 points for the clean-up.

It’s clean-up time, Cubs! Head to your nearest beach, park, or neighbourhood spot and collect trash before it becomes a seabird snack. Plastic and litter often end up in the ocean, where seabirds can swallow it by mistake. Yuck! Help make their home cleaner and safer—plus, it makes your space look awesome too.

4. Trashy Fashion Show. Earn a whopping 350 points for making your outfits and putting on the show.

Fashion meets recycling! Collect clean trash (think chip packets, old magazines, bottle caps), then design a wild and wacky outfit. Let your group strut their stuff in a Trashy Fashion Show. It’s a stylish way to show the world how waste can be reused instead of polluting nature. Strike a pose for the planet!

5. Shout Out for Seabirds! Your group will earn 100 points for sharing information about seabirds and an additional 25 points for each platform it is shared on. Wowzer! That’s a lot of points up for grabs.

Time to get creative! Design a poster, reel, comic strip or dance video to spread the word about why seabirds, like penguins, need our help. Share your message online (with an adult’s help) or in your school. Every share helps more people care! Make it fun, bold, and full of seabird love.
