Marine Protected Areas

7 Jul 2023

It is especially important to make sure that South Africa’s marine and coastal environment is healthy. A lot of people depend on these areas for jobs, food and so much more.

CapeNature manages six marine protected areas on behalf of the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment: Oceans and Coast, namely Robberg, Goukamma, Stilbaai, De Hoop, Betty’s Bay and Rocherpan. The entity also takes care of ecosystems and species outside these areas. A big part of their work is protecting threatened freshwater and marine species from poaching.

Healthy ecosystems are important, even for climate change. We encourage Cubs Club members to always look after the ocean and nature.
