Individual Action Projects

Here are some wonderful ways you can make a difference and help protect our amazing seabirds! Simply send us a picture of your action and we will assign your points to you!

• Bye-Bye Plastic. Eliminate single-use plastics. Earn 100 points for using alternatives.

Say “see ya” to single-use plastic like straws, bags and bottles. Swap them out for reusables and help keep our waterways and beaches cleaner. Show us a pic of yourself using a reusable item or none at all – like drinking at a restaurant with no straw or using a reusable shopping bag on your next shopping trip. Any alternative will earn you 100 points.

• Snip the Trap, Save a Bird! Earn 50 points for each item you snip.

Before you throw away plastic rings, bags or wraps – give them a quick snip-snip. Cutting up loops and straps means that seabirds (and other animals) can’t get tangled up. It’s super easy and takes just a few seconds. 

• Bird-Watching Bonanza. Earn 125 points for visiting and another 25 for each bird you correctly identify!

Grab your binoculars and visit a CapeNature Reserve to spot some amazing birds. Let us see what you saw and identified and where you were to earn points.

• Smart Seafood Feast. You will earn 50 points for downloading the SASSI APP and 150 points for hosting a sustainable fish braai and eating a SASSI green listed fish.

Get your chef hat on and plan a delicious braai or meal—but here’s the twist: you must follow the SASSI guide to make sure the fish on your plate is ocean-friendly! Green-listed only, Cubs! Whether it’s grilled snoek or a fishy wrap, make it tasty and sustainable. Invite your family and friends to join your sea-sensible supper.

• Poster Power! Earn 150 points for your poster.

Get crafty and make a colourful poster all about seabirds and how to protect them. Hang it up at school or at home and spread the feathery love.
