Celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity!

30 Apr 2025

May 22 is the International Day of Biodiversity, and this year we’re giving a big buggy cheer for insect diversity! The theme for 2025 is Harmony with nature and sustainable development. This simply means that we need to live in a way that does not harm nature.

Biodiversity means having lots of different plants, animals, and bugs in our world – and insects are the tiny superheroes of nature! From pollinating flowers to cleaning up messes, insects help keep ecosystems buzzing with life. There are millions of insect species, each with its own cool job to do.

Celebrating biodiversity means protecting all living things, big and small (even the squishy or stingy ones!). So, this May, let’s shout “hooray!” for our marvellous mini friends – the insects!

CapeNature will be jumping on the bandwagon and will be hosting a ton of biodiversity themed events during the month of May. If you want to join CapeNature for Biodiversity Month during May, let us know. Email learning@capenature.co.za.
