World Oceans Day!

30 Apr 2025

June 8 is World Oceans Day, a day set aside to celebrate our amazing oceans.

And guess what? Even oceans have insects! While most bugs prefer dry land, some super swimmers live near the sea. Meet the sea skaters – the only true ocean insects – who zip across the surface like tiny surfers! In coastal spots and tide pools, you might find water beetles, midges, and mosquito larvae making a splash. Oceans may be big and blue, but bugs still play a role, helping clean, feed, and support ocean life.

So, this Oceans Day, dive into the deep (or shallow) and celebrate the cool creatures—even the six-legged ones. If you are interested in a programme with CapeNature, email us at learning@capenature.co.za
