CapeNature invites suitably qualified and experienced parties to submit business proposals for the provision, management and operation of a mobile Beverage Kiosk at Walker Bay Nature Reserve, Klipgat Cave, De Kelders. The successful concessionaire will be responsible for supplying, installing, operating and maintaining a mobile kiosk within the designated concession area, providing visitors with a range of approved beverages and pre-packed food items.

Background

CapeNature invites suitably qualified and experienced parties to submit business proposals for the provision, management and operation of a mobile Beverage Kiosk at Walker Bay Nature Reserve, Klipgat Cave, De Kelders.

The successful concessionaire will be responsible for supplying, installing, operating and maintaining a mobile kiosk within the designated concession area, providing visitors with a range of approved beverages and pre-packed food items.

An electrical connection and water point will be made available for the kiosk. The successful concessionaire must provide an alternative electricity supply during load shedding or any interruption to the electrical supply.

The kiosk must be equipped with suitable handwashing and utensil washing facilities. All equipment required for the operation of the kiosk must be provided by the concessionaire, including appropriate waste management and wastewater disposal systems, in accordance with CapeNature's environmental requirements and municipal regulations.

Standards for Food and Beverage Offerings

  • A selection of hot and cold beverages and pre-packed food items must be offered.
  • All products must be approved by CapeNature Reserve Management prior to sale.
  • A complete product list must be submitted as part of the business proposal.
  • Preference should be given to locally sourced products where reasonably possible.
  • All products must be of a high quality and packaged using environmentally friendly or recyclable materials.
  • The sale of alcoholic beverages will not be permitted.
  • No food preparation or cooking may take place on site. All food items must be pre-packed before arriving at the reserve.

Business Hours and Staff Conduct

  • Bidders must propose separate summer and winter operating hours, which will be subject to approval by CapeNature Reserve Management.
  • CapeNature reserves the right to amend operating hours during special events, peak periods or operational requirements
  • Staff must always present a professional appearance, be punctual and provide excellent customer service.
  • Staff must wear a recognisable uniform and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), where applicable.

Requirements

  • Ownership and interested parties in company portfolio clearly identified with roles and responsibilities reflected in organogram. Must provide own skilled staff, preferably from within the local community closest to the selected reserve operation.
  • Proof of ability to meet operational and financial requirements.
  • Must provide an overview of the proposed marketing strategy and plan.
NB: Please note that site visits are highly recommended for interested parties to gain a better understanding of the respective nature reserve. All site visits must be pre-booked beforehand and accompanied by a CapeNature representative.

Proposal

Proposals must include:

  • Background of business (including any primary business).
  • Background of business owner.
  • BEE certification
  • Comprehensive business plan
  • A detailed description of the proposed benefits to CapeNature and its customers. Includes service offering and standards.
  • Operational model, including staff and infrastructure requirements. Staff compliment from the local community is recommended.
  • Financial model exemplifying sound and sustainable financial planning. The financial model should include the return on investment and clearly show the benefits to CapeNature. A 5-year financial model is recommended.
  • Job creation and local community benefit.
