For a coastal experience overlooking the oceans and a special, treasure box equipped with your camping needs (in case you forget yours) there’s our newly developed, Damara Trail overnight camping deck, making it the perfect destination for those who want to explore a hiking trail and relax in the beauty of nature – the full outdoor experience to be enjoyed by all. Don’t fear, our USB ports are here… at Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve. Camp in an indigenous forest surrounded and capture magical moments while the kids play in a modernised play park area or watch them splash in the newly built swimming pool.   • There are various sites to accommodate your loved ones – get your groups together and make memories this season! The more the merrier. Gamkaberg offers two campsites suitable for four people per site or for those who want an easier set-up, the two stables, sleeping four, are available for bookings. Better yet, Gamkaberg is an award-winning destination and has won numerous awards.
  • Our campsites have communal kitchen areas and ablutions facilities.
  • Each camp spot has a unique selling point. The Cederberg in the Wilderness offers lush waterfalls, Limietberg Nature Reserve is great for family-time or even time away with your special person. The campsite offers 20 sites and private sites too, with its own toilets and kitchen. You decide the vibe and invite your tribe!

Conservation Review 2025 highlights Western Cape’s biodiversity and conservation resilience and adaptability

2025 State of Conservation Report highlights progress and priorities in protecting Western Cape biodiversity

CapeNature launched the 2025 State of Conservation Report this morning at its annual Conservation Review, offering a clear, evidence-based view of the Western Cape’s biodiversity and how conservation efforts are measuring up.

Key themes emerging from the report include sustained efforts to build biodiversity resilience in the face of climate change, the value of strategic partnerships, and the growing integration of monitoring data into planning and policy.

A Win for Renosterveld Conservation as Haarwegskloof Declared a Provincial Nature Reserve

In a major victory for biodiversity conservation, Haarwegskloof, which includes the largest remaining connected stretch of renosterveld left on Earth has officially been declared a provincial nature reserve.

The reserve is owned by WWF South Africa and managed by the Overberg Renosterveld Trust (ORT), a non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting and restoring the fragile renosterveld ecosystem that once covered large parts of the Overberg.
