It doesn’t end there… breathe in the natural aroma of an indigenous forest while paddling away in a pedal boat, challenge your faves in a canoe or kayak race at one of our Heritage Sites, or simply enjoy views, overlooking the estuarine for picturesque moments. Beat the sunburn after a hike and dip into mountain pools and capture scenic photographs with waterfalls as your backdrop at Jonkershoek Nature Reserve.       2. Exploring Great Adventures

      Did someone say ziplining? CapeNature has partnered with Cape Canopy Tours to bring visitors an exciting activity at Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, also known as a Heritage Site. Slide through valleys, majestic forest landscapes, offering 13 platforms and slides up to 320 m long – adventurers are left wanting more! Find out more.

      Trails for days, hike and walk through your bucket list destinations at CapeNature. Offering an array of options for the avid hiker to the slow hikers, there are many options to choose from. The Damara trail, situated at De Mond Nature Reserve is the new and popular, and very first coastal ‘slow’ hike. It offers a two-day wholesome experience where education meets excitement, lace up your boots and conquer! The Pristine Geelkrans Nature Reserve is a coastal haven, packed with summer activities like no other, i.e., walking, hiking, swimming, snorkelling and whale watching. Your steps are bound to be met with sand cliffs and extensive intertidal areas, which slows down as your approach the rest areas overlooking magnificent views.

      3. Sunset Picnics and Braais

      The best part about summer is the warm, chirpy mornings and the soft, sounding evenings… birds are welcoming, and the wildlife is calm within their natural environment, blissfully roaming around, making it a picture-perfect moment if spotted while enjoying an outdoor picnic or braai. You choose your preferred background, pack your snacks and head out to one of many, popular picnic spots.

      At Goukamma Nature Reserve, picnic alongside the meandering Goukamma River, take selfies at the nearby picture frames, or for the summertime captures, Marloth Nature Reserve offers breathtaking mountain views near the Duiwelsbos waterfall hike, you’d imagine yourself in a painting.

      If the Cape Winelands is on your summer list of places to visit, don’t forget to stop at Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve. The beauty is endless with designated picnic and braai areas overlooking the reserve in its majestic form. Assegaaibosch is a well-known ‘slow down’ reserve for family and friends to fully connect with nature with trees older than 200-years-old to add to your story-telling when sharing your summer experience. On those hot days, take a stroll to the natural pools while the meat is cooking.

      Damara Trail Wins Silver Award at International Tourism Film Festival Africa 2025

      CapeNature is proud to announce that its Damara Trail video series has won the Silver Award in the Tourism – Products category at the prestigious International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) 2025.

      CapeNature’s videos stood out for their compelling storytelling, visual excellence, and ability to capture the essence of nature-based tourism in the Western Cape.

      “We are incredibly proud that the Damara Trail videos have been recognised on an international platform. This award helps to underline our commitment to sustainable tourism offerings.       Record-breaking pine clearing operation strengthens water security at Boosmansbos

      A successful HeliHack operation has cleared 15 194 invasive pine trees from the rugged slopes of the Boosmansbos Wilderness Area – a CapeNature-managed World Heritage Site and crucial catchment area feeding the Duivenhoks Dam.

      From 3–5 May 2025, the latest mission to tackle the invasive alien vegetation marked the most successful pine removal in the initiative’s history.

      Why humane euthanasia was the only way out for the stranded Humpback whale at Robberg Nature Reserve

      A young female Humpback whale that was stranded on the Island Beach at Robberg Nature Reserve on Monday, 19 May 2025, was humanely euthanised the following morning after multiple failed rescue attempts and a subsequent expert assessment.

      The whale appeared to have run aground on a sandbank and Robberg Nature Reserve personnel were on site to monitor the whale and manage public access to prevent further distress or harm.

      Elusive Boosmansbos long-tailed forest shrew recorded for the first time in 46 years!

      One of the Western Cape’s most mysterious mammals, the Boosmansbos long-tailed forest shrew (Myosorex longicaudatus boosmani), has made a reappearance, 46 years after it was last recorded! Conservationists from CapeNature, Grootvadersbosch Conservancy and Helihack, together with volunteer biologists found one of these tiny mammals in CapeNature’s Boosmansbos Wilderness Area.
