On 21st of November annually we celebrate World Fisheries Day, to highlight the importance of healthy ocean ecosystems and the importance of ensuring sustainable stocks of fisheries. Fisheries provide us with jobs, food and so much more.

CapeNature has completed a number of upgrades at Algeria, Cederberg Wilderness to offer an even better holiday experience ahead of the festive season. Avid campers will be happy to know that the communal ablution facilities at the ever-popular camping site got a lovely face-lift with several upgrades and improvements implemented.

Unusual numbers of rabbits and wild hares have been dying in the Western Cape since the first week of November. It appears that the deaths are caused by a highly contagious disease, to which South African rabbits and hares have no immunity.

CapeNature was again very well represented at this year’s Conservation Symposium and staff presented a range of informative talks showcasing our work in the conservation sector. Hosted in hybrid form this international event saw over 400 delegates registered from all over the world.

October marks National Marine Month. Due to the ever-increasing pressures on the ocean ecosystems and species from pollution, overfishing, mining, energy generation projects and changing climate, there is a critical need to set aside parts of each oceanic ecosystem for conservation purposes.

CapeNature took the opportunity to host an exhibition at the 31st Whale Festival held in Hermanus from 30 September to 2 October.The exhibition focused on our marine protected areas, but also provided an opportunity for parents to subscribe their children to CapeNature’s Cubs Club in real time.
